SETTING UP IN seaclear

· The clarity of our charts on the screen is less good with SeaClear than with Memory-Map and it does not, we believe, have an app for Apple mobile devices. While inexpensive UKHO-style charts are available for SeaClear they seem to work ‘less comfortably’ with our charts than in Memory-Map. Hence, we don’t recommend SeaClear for use with our charts.

· Install the SeaClear suite of programmes on your PC. You can install either the free download or the paid-for version that includes all the UKHO charts for UK and Ireland, currently £29.50.  See SeaClear

· For quick results, open SeaClear, go to ‘Chart’, then ‘Not Listed’, then browse through to find your downloaded BSB version of ‘AntaresCharts2023’.

· But to set things up ‘properly’ go to your desktop and double click on the SeaClear shortcut to  ‘Other help and programs’ and then on ‘Shortcut to My OWN charts’. Then go to your downloaded BSB version of ‘AntaresCharts2023’. Highlight all the charts (click on the first one, hold the shift key down and click on the last one) and then copy them into the SeaClear ‘My OWN charts’ folder. Finally, go back to your desktop, double click on ‘Other help and programs’ and then on ‘Shortcut to MapCal_2.exe’.  In MapCal, go to ‘Tools’, ‘Autoload list’, ‘Scan for new charts’ and then, also under ’Autoload list’, click on ‘Update’.  It should have told you it had found new charts and then updated the list as you watch. You can check this by going to SeaClear and clicking on ‘File’, ‘Chart’, ‘List all’. You should see our charts alongside the UKHO charts.

· Useful tip: each time you open SeaClear go to ‘File’, ‘Chart’, ’Outline’. By ticking ’Outline’ you will see a thin red line around the area covered by each chart that overlaps with the one you are using. Both UKHO and Antares Chart outlines will show but only at a reasonably high level of zoom. You have to re-tick the box every time you open SeaClear.

· N.B. If you use our charts in conjunction with other charts you may wish to remove our Chart Selector charts as they will obscure the other material. Just go into your downloaded ‘AntaresCharts2023’ folder,  then highlight and ‘Cut’ our nine ‘AC … Chart Selector….’ charts and paste them somewhere else in case you want them again (the chart selectors appear first in the list of charts).
