SHOAL-DRAUGHT CHARTS These are generally very large scale (XL) charts of drying areas that may be of interest to shoal-draught boats, especially those that can dry out. They include extra colours for drying areas and also, often, half-metre contours. Surveying drying areas can be very difficult, as there is never much depth of water for our equipment and often lots of weed. These charts come with an extra health warning—you should always navigate slowly and keep an especially good lookout in such areas.
SPECIAL CHARTS A few of our charts, which we call ‘Special Charts’, focus on seabed gradient. Any significant gradient on the seabed can cause problems when anchoring but steeper gradients should never be used if there’s any chance of you being blown away from the slope.
